Australia is undoubtedly the best cricket team in the world at the moment and they have been for quite some time. The reason is not, that there players are naturally gifted. The answer is the Australian domestic cricket is of the highest standard and the best set up out of all of other cricket nations

Australian domestic cricket has one team for each state. So there ends up to be 6 or 7 teams each season. This means the best only make domestic cricket. Whereas there are up to 30 domestic teams in other cricket countries such as Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan.

To many teams means there is a lot of players playing at the highest level obviously. This leads to a weaker playign standard. And it leads to less publicity.

If countries are going to start competing well with Australia they are going to need to, copy the structure of there domestic system. Because that is whats producing results, along with good selectors who are paid. Lets hope other cricket nations follow this so international cricket becomes more competitive.

The similar set up has been adopted by Australian soccer with the creation of the 'A League' and once again the system works, the structure seems dominant for great things.
